South African fast bowler Dale Steyn will be replacing his own country teammate Hashim Amla for the England domestic county side Hampshire for the 2017/18 season. Amla has been diagnosed with a minor knee injury, after amassing 611 runs at an average of 50 in both four-day and List A games for the team and hence, his injury comes as a big blow.

He returned back home late in May and took part in the fitness and medical screening with the national squad that was looked over by the head coach of the South African team Ottis Gibson. He has subsequently been advised rest for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

Giles White, Hampshire's Director of Cricket has been quoted saying about the development that, "I can't say enough positive things about Hashim. He made a brilliant impression and he's been outstanding throughout that time spent with us, both through his engagement with the Club and our young players, as well as the experience and skill he offered with the bat,"

"It's easy to see why he's so well regarded around the world and one of the greats of our era. We wish him well against Sri Lanka and hopefully one day we'll see him back in Hampshire colours,"

Steyn will be playing four games for the club and is a valuable signing for the county.
