Womens Asia Cup: India Women continue their dominance; register a thumping victory over Sri Lanka

India Women had suffered a surprising seven defeat at the hands of Bangladesh Women on Wednesday.

India Women and Sri Lanka Women squared off in the 12th match of the ongoing Women's Asia Cup T20 at the Royal Selangor Club, Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (June 7).

After suffering an unexpected defeat at the hands of Bangladesh Women on Wednesday (June 6), Harmanpreet Kaur and company made a stellar comeback to register a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka.

Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka rode on Hasini Perera’s 43-ball 46 to post 107/7 in 20 overs. None of the Lankan batswomen expect for Hasini crossed the mark of 30 runs. In fact, there were seven single-digit scores in the batting card.

Ekta Bisht was the stand-out bowler for India as she claimed 2 for 20 in her 4 overs. Jhulan Goswami, Anuja Patil and Poonam Yadav also claimed wicket apiece in their quota of 4 overs.

In reply, India lost their ace opener Smriti Mandhana (12 runs off 16 balls) for just 21. However, the cool and composed heads of Mithali Raj and captain Harmanpreet brought the innings on track with a 34-run stand for the second wicket.

After Mithali (23 runs off 33 balls) and Kaur’s (24 runs off 25 balls) dismissal, the pair of Veda Krishnamurthy (29* runs off 23 balls) and Anuja Patil (19* runs off 16 balls) shared an unbeaten 40-run partnership to saw the side home with 7 balls to spare.

With this win, India Women’s team strengthened their position in the points table even further. The Women in Blue are placed at the pinnacle of the points table with 3 wins from 4 matches.
