Veteran Ireland batsman William Porterfield has given up the T20I captaincy of his national cricket team to ease out some burden from his shoulder. Porterfield was leading Ireland in limited-overs cricket since 2008 but he now wants to exclusively focus on his Test and ODI captaincy.
Earlier last month, Porterfield led Ireland in its historic first ever Test match against Pakistan at Dublin. Porterfield, who captained Ireland in 56 Twenty20 Internationals, will carry on playing the shortest format as a batsman. The wicketkeeper batsman Gary Wilson will now lead the Irish side in T20I cricket.

Having made his international debut back in 2006, William Porterfield has done a commendable job in putting cricket on the sporting map in Ireland. The 33-year-old has represented Ireland in 119 ODIs (96 as a captain) and 56 T20Is.
While Porterfield has amassed 3692 ODI runs at an average of 32.38 with 11 tons and 15 fifties, he has scored 1002 runs in Twenty20 Internationals with 3 fifties.
