Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman has congratulated the Afghanistan Cricket Team for winning the historic T20 International series against Bangladesh on Tuesday (5 June).

Young Afghan side has been continually making headlines in recent international cricket. First, they showed tremendous progress in white ball cricket, next they were awarded the Test status by ICC. They capped it off by qualifying for the 2019 World Cup in the qualifiers.

At the moment they are busy in playing T20Is against Bangladesh at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Dehradun, in India, where the Afghanis are writing their success story, having won the first and second T20I of the three-match series with heavy margins to clinch the historic series 2-0 in a style.

Meanwhile, Laxman, who is very close to Afghan’s Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi due to their stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL), lauded the duo, as well as, saying it’s fantastic to see the rise of the young side in the cricket world.

Rashid, who is the spin master and one of the key members who have helped the national side to make themselves a brand in the world, is impressive in the series, picked up total seven Bangladesh wickets in the two matches. The 19-year-old leg-spinner would be certainly like to continue with his roaring form with the ball in the ongoing series and the upcoming India Test.

On 6 June, SRH mentor went on his official Twitter handle to drop a congratulatory note for Afghanistan side as well as Nabi and Rashid on the big occasion. He wrote, “Congratulations to the @ACBofficials on winning the T20I series against Bangladesh.Afghanistan has come a long way and it's fantastic to see them rise. Well done @MohammadNabi007 @rashidkhan_19 and the entire team #AFGvBAN”

On the other hand, final of the T20I series against Bangladesh will be played on 7 June (Thursday) followed by one-off historic Test to be held in Bangalore from 14 June.
