Surrey signs Nic Maddinson for Natwest T20 Blast

Australian batsman Nic Maddinson has been signed up by Surrey County Cricket Club for the upcoming T20 Blast tournament starting from July, confirmed by the Club on Tuesday (5 June).

The 26-year-old left-hander will join compatriot Aaron Finch and play under former Aussie cricketer Michael Di Venuto during the stint. 

Though, Maddinson has not much T20 International experience, having played only 3 T20Is for Australia, but has numerous T20s with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League and Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash (BBL). Maddinson has scored 1549 runs at an amazing strike rate of 130.93 with the highest score of 85 in 73 T20 matches So far.

As per reports in Cricbuzz, Maddinson said of his signing with Surrey, “It's a fabulous opportunity to play at a great sporting organization such as Surrey County Cricket Club and with my Australian counterpart Aaron Finch. I also welcome the opportunity of working with Head Coach Michael Di Venuto.”

He signed off by saying, “Having the Kia Oval as our home ground also gives me the chance to play at one of England's great iconic grounds. Let's hope I can help Surrey win the title.”

Meanwhile, New South Wales refused to renew Maddinson's contract for the upcoming season after his poor outing in the four-day Sheffield Shield competition last year, despite this, the opener is in demand as Cricket Victoria are keen on acquiring his services. Although he is yet to give the node to Victoria.
