BCB's chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury on Tuesday confirmed that they are trying to rope in Steve Rhodes for an interview and a discussion for the post of Bangladesh's head coach. As per the reports, Steve Rhodes will be replacing Chandika Hathurusingha whos place has been empty for 8 months.

"Steve Rhodes is in our shortlist as a head coach and we are hoping that he will meet us in Dhaka in a couple of days,'' Nizamuddin told reporters. "We have already communicated with him that we would like to know what plans he has for the Bangladesh team for the 2019 World Cup and 2020 World T20.

"Generally, when someone is appearing for an interview here, it is assumed that we have had some basic discussions with him."

South African great, Gary Kirsten has suggested Steve Rhodes name after BCB seek Gary's help to choose the right coach for their nation. Bangladesh is currently playing against Afghanistan in Dehradun.

"We shared our tentative candidate's list with Gary Kirsten. It is a joint effort as our shortlist is made up of Kirsten's recommendations and our list,'' Chowdhury added. "We had initially approached big names and experienced coaches but they couldn't come because of various reasons. Among the currently available coaches, Rhodes is the most experienced. Also, the 2019 World Cup will be held in England which is another reason that we are looking at him,'' he added.

Steve Rhodes is expected to join the team between the break of Afghanistan series and the upcoming series of Windies later this year.

Rhodes had an affluent career as a wicket-keeper for Yorkshire and Worcestershire and playing some handful of games for team England as a professional cricketer. He began coaching after his retirement and even took Worcestershire to the next division of County Championship last year. He was also acknowledged by ECB and he was also a part of the coaching staff against Bangladesh.

His tenure at Worcestershire came to an end after the controversial circumstances when he was dismissed last year when he failed to report the arrest of one of his players. After the case was reported, the county 
felt that they could sack Steve even after he was trying to help someone who asked for his help.

Rhodes was given the task of scouting the best local talent in the domestic circuit and keeping the ECB chairman of the selection panel, Ed Smith updated. It is his good work in the scouting process which has landed him in this role.

Richard Pybus and Phil Simmons were also interviewed for the position of the head coach.
