Right-arm fast bowler Jake Ball has been drafted into the ODI squad for the upcoming five-match ODI series against Australia, as cover for the injured Chris Woakes. Woakes suffered a niggle during the recently concluded Headingley Test and has subsequently been diagnosed with the strain in the right knee.

Woakes, who will be missing the ODI against Scotland as well as the five-game series versus Australia, has been very good in the 50 overs format for his country. He has taken 37 wickets at 23.02 in his last 21 ODI matches for England, while also scoring crucial runs down the order.

England will feel this adds to their problems, as allrounder Ben Stokes has already been sidelined from the one day series against one of the best sides in world cricket because of a left hamstring tear he suffered in the build-up to the Leeds Test. Missing both Stokes and Woakes and their all-round ability for the early part of a tough series will hurt England.

Both - Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes - were playing for the Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Banglore in the recently concluded Indian Premier League.

Jake Ball hasn't played in the limited overs side since playing in the ODI series in Australia this year, which the visitors won 4-1. He has taken 21 wickets in 17 ODIs so far for the three lions.

England's five-match ODI series starts on June 13th.
