India speedster Ishant Sharma has once again picked up an injury as he did not feature in Sussex’s last match against Essex in the ongoing Royal London One-Day Cup on Sunday (June 3). The news of Ishant’s injury was confirmed by Sussex’s official Twitter account before the match yesterday.

The degree of the injury is yet to be determined. Earlier in the season, Ishant had suffered a shoulder injury while fielding in the deep against Gloucestershire. Subsequently, he had missed Sussex’s next tie against Middlesex.

Ishant’s injury has come at a wrong time given the fact that he is part of the 16-men India Test squad which will take on Test debutants Afghanistan in Bangalore from June 14.

The lanky pacer will now have to prove his fitness prior to the game. As per a report in the Indian Express, all the players have been asked to clear yo-yo test before the Afghanistan game.

Sharma is in top form with the ball in county cricket. He has taken 15 wickets in the four first-class matches earlier in the season for Sussex while he has claimed 8 scalps in 6 List A games.

India Squad for Afghanistan Test:

Ajinkya Rahane(c), Cheteshwar Pujara, Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay, Lokesh Rahul, Karun Nair, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya, Ishant Sharma, Shardul Thakur, Dinesh Karthik
