Kagiso Rabada grabs South African Cricketer of the Year along with five other awards

AB de Villiers and David Miller also won awards during the South Africa Annual Awards night.

Kagiso Rabada swept the South African awards night by winning six of the eight available awards to him. Cricket South Africa held its annual ceremony in Johannesburg on Saturday evening (June 2) and Rabada also won the South African Cricketer of the Year in men’s category.

Dane van Niekerk's exploits in women’s game earned her the same title in women’s category. "It is encouraging that for the second time in a row our premier awards have gone to our young stars who are shining with distinction alongside our world-class senior players," said CSA's acting chief executive Thabang Moroe.

The two awards that Rabada didn’t win was the T20 International player of the year, which went to recently retired AB de Villiers and the KFC Colonel's Always Original Award, which went to David Miller for his world record fifty against Bangladesh in T20I. Aiden Markram won the International Newcomer of the Year after he scored 1000 runs at an average of 55.55 in his first 10 Tests.

This was a repeat of 2016 ceremony, were Rabada had also picked six awards. This time around he was named as the Test and ODI Cricketer of the Year, the SA Players' Player of the Year and SA Fans Player of the Year, and his dismissal of David Warner was named as Delivery of the Year. Rabada took 72 wickets in 13 Tests at an average of 19.52, a period that saw him rise to the top of the ICC's Test rankings.
