Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis believes that the current Pakistan cricket team led by Sarfraz Ahmed has the potential to lift the 2019 World Cup to be held in England.

He further said that Pakistan's current impressive record in England makes them one of the favorites for the 2019 World Cup title.

Since winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England, there are high hopes on Pakistan to deliver in the next mega ICC event. Younis noted that Pakistan’s record has been improving day by day in England, first winning the  Champions Trophy and now a competitive performance in the Test series will prepare them well for the mega event next year. 

The “One Year To Go Launch” event of next year's World Cup has launched at the iconic Brick Lane in London on 30 May, which was attended by brand ambassadors including England captain Eoin Morgan, ICC Cricket Hall of Famer Brian Lara, former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd, South Africa's Allan Donald, New Zealand bowler Mitchell McClenaghan, Bangladesh's Tamim Iqbal and Younis.

As per reports in Geo TV, Waqar said, “It is too early to say who will be the winner as there is still a year to go, but Pakistan's recent track record in England has been impressive. They finished runners-up in the 1999 edition and then won the T20 World Cup in 2009. Last year they won the Champions Trophy which shows Pakistan's [impressive] record in England.”

Meanwhile, Morgan admitted that Pakistan will be one of the toughest sides in the World Cup and feels England and India along with Champions Trophy winners are the top contenders for the coveted trophy.

He signed off by saying, “In last year's Champions Trophy, Pakistan had a very strong and young team and was one of the best teams of the tournament. We have to consider both Pakistan and India (who played the final against Pakistan) as well as ourselves and continue to learn from our mistakes.”
