Allrounder Ben Stokes is unlikely to feature for England in the upcoming one day series against Australia at home, after suffering a hamstring niggle this week. Stokes, who is being diagnosed with a torn hamstring, has already missed the crucial Test match against Pakistan that started yesterday in Headingley.

In Stokes's absence, left-arm swing bowler Sam Curran made his debut for the three lions. Scans on Thursday afternoon had revealed the injury to Ben Stokes who must have been gutted to know that he'll be missing an all-important match for his country.

The magnitude of the injury to him will only be confirmed after a couple of days, and a few scans more. Early signs from within English team management suggests that it is not a minor tear and he could be out of action for several weeks, by then the ODI series against Australia, which begins on June 13, would've already started.

England would be desperate to have Ben Stokes fit and in form for the five-match Test series against India, later in the summer.

Stokes picked up the injury during fielding practice on Wednesday afternoon. He did go on to bat in the nets on Thursday but did not take part in the fielding drills and limited his pre-match warm-ups to just refereeing the football match. He did undergo a series of sprints to assess his fitness on Thursday.
