Twitter has become a very good gauge of popularity during an IPL season.

Fans engaged on Twitter heavily during the IPL and sent 18.8 million tweets in 2018, a 100% increase in tweets from last season in 2017. The IPL 2017 finals were also was the most tweeted finals of all time, recording over 1 million tweets.
