Having made his international debut back in June 2016, India’s leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has come a long way. He had a memorable tour of South Africa earlier this year, taking 16 wickets in 6 ODIs as the Men in Blue clinched the one-day international series with a stunning margin of 5-1. Chahal followed it up with eight wickets in the Nidahas T20 tri-series that India won by beating Bangladesh in a thrilling final.

Recently, Chahal appeared in Gaurav Kapur’s popular talk show ‘Breakfast with Champions’ where he recalled his ODI debut and how it was like receiving the cap from the legendary MS Dhoni.

“I had received the ODI cap from Mahi bhai. He is a legend and was with him for the first time. I was not even able to talk in front of him. He talks so nicely that you wonder if he is really Mahi bhai,” he quoted.

Chahal, who has often credited Dhoni for his success in limited-overs cricket lately, also revealed a funny moment during the 2016 tour of Zimbabwe when MSD urged him to not address him as ‘Sir’.

“During Zimbabwe tour when I met him first, I used to call him Mahi Sir. After two overs he called me and said, ‘Mahi, Dhoni, Mahendra Singh Dhoni or Bhai. Call me whatever you want’,” the leggie added.

Chahal played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the just concluded Indian Premier League. Although RCB had a disappointing end to their campaign, Chahal performed decently and ended the season with 12 wickets from 14 matches at an average and economy rate of 30.25 and 7.26 respectively.

The 27-year-old leggie is currently taking a rest after the hectic IPL 2018 and will take part in India’s two-match T20I series against Ireland later this month. Subsequently, Chahal will head off to England for three ODIs and as many Twenty20 internationals.
