Saw a Facebook post claiming Sourav Ganguly has joined a political party? We suggest you should not believe it. They are rumors and has no confirmation from the former India cricketer Ganguly's side.

A page named Paschim Bange BJP Chai (We want BJP in Bengal) shared a post declaring that the 'Prince of Kolkata', Ganguly has joined BJP. The post written in Bengali was, “Former cricket captain Sourav Ganguly joins BJP and PM Narendra Modi’s sabka saath sabka vikas agenda, is joined by an honest, dedicated man who is loved by India. Today is a day of celebration ……let’s share the news”.

Ganguly has a good influence among people of Bengal and no wonder why every political party wants to rope him in their party. Sourav, who is currently serving Cricket Association of Bengal as its president, has always kept himself away from politics and rejected many such offers.

In 2014, a proposal of contesting Lok Sabha election with a Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) was sent to Ganguly. But he turned down the offer. "Yes, the BJP did make an offer. However, I have declined it. I won't be contesting the elections," he had said.

Before becoming India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi wanted Ganguly as the Sports Minister of India. But Ganguly was clear with his stand. On being offered a seat in Rajya Sabha like Sachin Tendulkar, he said, "No. My place is cricket ground, not the Parliament."
