Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson seems not happy with Cricket Australia’s decision of heavy bans on Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft for their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal, calling it “as an extreme penalty” on the trio.

Smith and Warner have been given year-long bans, while Bancroft received a nine-month suspension by Australian cricket board for their misconduct in South Africa this March. Even Warner is not eligible to take any leadership position again following the controversy.

As per reports in Reuters, Watson said, “It is an extreme penalty for what they did compared to the bans that have happened and the reprimands that have happened in the past.”

He further added, “They've paid a heavy price, there is no question, and when they come back they will be doing everything they can to try and repay people for the mistakes they made.”

Meanwhile, Watson admitted that the trio "made a huge error of judgment", as well as, he believes that Justin Langer is the "right-man" to rebuild the national side following the scandal.

Watson signed off by saying, “He is certainly going to make sure the Aussies are on the right track.”

Noteworthy, Watson has done a brilliant job for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the recently concluded IPL 2018, amassed 555 runs at an amazing strike rate of 154.59, and now set to play for Karachians in a 10-over format league in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) later this year.
