England’s White-ball captain Eoin Morgan is hoping to recover in time before their limited overs’ Australia series next month after sustaining finger injury during First-class tournament. It is learned that his injury requires about a week to heal once the swelling goes down.

The 31-year-old fractured the ring finger on his right hand while fielding in a Royal London One-Day Cup match of his side Middlesex against Somerset on Sunday (27 May). With the latest incident, Morgan will not be part of the charity T20 between World XI and the West Indies on 31 May at Lord's.

According to a report in India Today, Morgan told reporters, “It caught me on the top of the finger, initially it was quite bruised. I went for a precautionary X-ray about two hours ago and there's a slight fracture at the top of my ring finger on my right hand.”

The English skipper further added, “It's not a huge concern, one we can hopefully manage past about a week, once the swelling goes down. It's not fractured into the joint, which is a really good result, but obviously disappointing to miss any cricket.”

England and Australia are scheduled to play the five One Day Internationals and a T20 International with the ODI series will get underway on 13 June at Kennington Oval, London. Before playing ODIs, England will also play 2 practice matches on 7 and 9 June respectively.
