Joe Root, the England Test Captain, has come out and stated, just prior to playing Pakistan in the first Test of the home summer, that the very sudden and untimely retirement of AB de Villiers from international Cricket that the South African did some absolutely wonderful things in his illustrious career for proteas.

AB de Villiers announced his retirement yesterday and ended his international career at the age of 34, despite being one of the fittest cricketers out there. He retires with some outstanding numbers across all formats of the game, with 8765 runs in 114 Tests, 9577 runs in 228 ODIs and 1672 runs in 78 T20Is.

In his video message where De Villiers broke the news, he termed himself tired from the burden that comes by playing all the formats. Something that should be a concern for international cricket about the players like Joe Root who continuously go through the grind of the game. But, Root himself isn't too perturbed.

He was recently quoted saying, "I think it is very different. If you look at someone like AB, he has had a wonderful career, done freakish things in the game across three formats and he has been a great servant to South Africa"

"But he has been doing it for 12, 14 years, a long time, and by anyone's standards that is a long career. I look at how it is at the minute and when you go from different formats, it gives you energy. A slightly different squad, a different way of thinking about the game and that has always been enough for me to be energized. I can't see how that is going to change any time soon for me,"
