Dom Bess, the off-spinner from Somerset County, has been confirmed to play in the first Test at Lord's against Pakistan by the England Test captain Joe Root. The youngster was recently selected by the England Cricket Board National Selector Ed Smith for the first time in the Test squad.

He has got this call-up, and the big opportunity, only because his county teammate Jake Leach is unfit and England decided to move on from the services of Moeen Ali.

Joe Root, Bess's captain now, was recently quoted saying about the youngster's inclusion that, "He seems really clear about what he wants to do in the game and how to approach this week, and that's all you can ask for from someone making their debut,"

He further confirmed, “He is a very confident young man and has a lot of energy, as you would expect – a decision on whether Mark Wood or Chris Woakes is the third seamer will be made in the morning. A green pitch, but one that has spent much of the build-up under cover for fear of being too dry, will be assessed"

"I remember mine, you just want tomorrow to come around, to get your cap and get on with it. He's approached the week really well and hopefully he can have a good start to what's a good, long career."

Pakistan's Test tour of England starts today(Thursday 24th May), with the first Test at the home of Cricket Lord's.
