Australian cricket legend Allan Border has urged the national selectors to have their eyes on the star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for sure while picking Test squad for the Justin Langer’s team.

Maxwell’s Test career has been unstable as the right-hander had played only seven Tests since making debut in 2013, and none of which had come successively. Even, the all-rounder was dropped for the last Ashes series despite being in stunning form at the domestic circuit.

The former Aussie captain believed that the 29-year-old deserves a Test recall because of his excellence against spin, as well as, his ability as an off-spinner, that makes him an absolute stuff for middle-order spots in the Men in Baggy Green’s squad.

Border told SEN radio, “He has got talent to burn. We've seen glimpses of it in the Test match arena. We see it in the short format of the game, but he can easily play Test cricket. He is just getting his head around playing within certain limitations which is hard for 'Maxy' because he has a shot for every ball. It's just getting your head around what's required to be successful in Test cricket.”

At the moment, Australian selectors and Langer are searching a strong squad for India A tour to built-up before Pakistan and England series, and Border believes Maxwell should be there.

Border signed off by saying, “I definitely think the selectors have eyes on him for sure because of what he brings to the table: great in the field, dynamic batting and the off-spin bowling. It's a compelling argument to have him somewhere in your Test side. Fingers crossed he starts the season with a bang and throw his name into the ring.”
