A senior BCCI official has revealed to the Press Trust of India that the Indian Cricket Board is highly displeased with the International Crickets Council’s Strategic Working Group (SWG), as they have described over-dependence on India for revenue generation as a "weakness".

In the meeting, SWG highlighted over-dependence on India excepting lack of enough broadcasters in its 'Global Strategy Report', and later, BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and Treasurer Aniruddh Chaudhry demanded a correction from the SWG, though they have agreed for it.

They have discussed 72 points including 18 each of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, and SWG has opined that cricket is not a truly global sport as its heavy dependence on Indian revenues.

Without enlightening his name, a BCCI official said, “We have categorically told SWG today that we have a serious objection to the wording of the document and they have agreed to it. They have assured that before the final strategy paper is prepared and presented to the board, a course correction will be done.”

He added, “Had they just written over-dependance on India, it was fine but what was demeaning was terming it as a weakness. We pointed it out and they agreed. Otherwise, it was a peaceful meeting.”

Meanwhile, ICC Chief Executive Dave Richardson has termed India's revenue generation as a "strength and not weakness" after the meeting with the CoA and BCCI office-bearers’ with the SWG.

Dave signed off by saying, “I would rather focus on it as strength as we need Indian cricket as part of Global strategy. It's a strength that we have such a huge cricket economy behind us. So it's not a weakness from ICC's point of view. It's just a reminder to other countries that they cannot rely on India alone.”
