Canada are all set to launch its own franchise based T20 tournament in the world of T20 leagues, as their ‘Global T20 Canada’ set to kicks off this June 2018.

The six franchises league, which is being organized by Cricket Canada in association with the Chennai-based Mercuri Group, will take place between 28 June and 15 July here.

Interestingly, the ‘Global T20 Canada’ will have the same knockout stages like Indian Premier League (IPL), the top two teams will face each other in the first playoff, and the winner will reach to the final.

While the defeating side will then play the winner of the second playoff between the third and fourth-placed side, with the winner of this encounter will make it to final to the T20 event.

Meanwhile, the ICC-approved T20 league will see all matches in King City at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club, while the player draft is scheduled to take place on May 26 to fill out six team rosters –are Caribbean All-Stars, Toronto Nationals, Montreal Tigers, Ottawa Royals, Vancouver Knights and Winnipeg Hawks.

An ESPNCricinfo report stated, “Each team will play six games in the league phase: an initial round-robin followed by a single-match second round in which the teams will play one other opponent. The top four teams after the league phase advance to the playoffs beginning on July 12.”

However, Cricket Canada and organizers have not revealed too much about the tournament, but only four Canadian players will be required to be drafted into every squad, while it is yet to confirm whether any foreign players will make the player draft pool.
