BCCI planning to launch women's IPL in next three years, says CoA chief Vinod Rai

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) administrator Vinod Rai has hinted at the launch of Women’s Indian Premier League (IPL) in the next three years on Tuesday (15 may).

Since Indian Women’s Team’s stunning outing in the 2017 World Cup in England, where they finished as the runner-up lost the maiden title to the hosts, there were pressure about T20 cricket tournament likes of celebrated IPL for the eves in the country, but it has not been confirmed officially about it.

Even, many cricket greats and Indian Women players expressed their desire to have Women’s T20 league in the country in a bid to improve their game and offers the opportunity to the budding women cricketers to represent their talent.

Now, it seems that the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) are seriously thinking about it, and even maybe they are officially discussing it, as the Committee of Administrators (CoA) chairman says BCCI is planning to launch the tournament in the country very soon.

However, the CoA chief has not revealed anything regarding the Women’s T20 tournament, but Women cricketers from Australia, England, and South Africa will play an India under IPL rules on 22 May.

Mr. Rai told AFP, “We are planning to get a women's IPL in place in two to three years. The match to be played between a BCCI XI and IPL XI will take place ahead of the first (men's IPL) playoff at the Wankhede Stadium.”

Before the first IPL Playoffs 2018, BCCI XI and IPL XI will face each other in a Twenty20 exhibition game at Wankhede Stadium as part of the build-up on Tuesday (22 May).
