Surrey head Coach Michael di Venuto has said on Tuesday (8 May) that he and his young are eagerly waiting for Indian skipper Virat Kohli to join the English County club next month.

Venuto also said that the youngsters are excited with the prospect of playing and sharing the Surrey dressing with one of the best batsmen of the world –kohli. The dashing right-hander will make his county debut against Kent at Beckenham on 1 June.

At the moment, Kohli is busy in playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018, and he will be missing the Afghanistan Test at home to play County cricket.

Di Venuto told BBC Radio London, “We can’t wait. The players are certainly looking forward to it, as we are as coaching staff. As soon as the signing was announced, the youngsters in the squad were so excited at the prospect of sharing the dressing room and playing with him.”

He signed off by saying, “I've certainly sat and watched him score plenty of runs in the time I was working in the Australia dressing room. Hopefully, I'm going to enjoy it a bit more when he's batting for Surrey, that's for sure.”

The 29-year-old, who will join Surrey as an overseas player, will play three County Championship matches and three 50-over One-Day Cup matches for the county side before leading India in their England tour.

Noteworthy, Indian will play five Tests, three One Day Internationals, and 3 T20 Internationals in England from July to September 2018.
