Former Pakistani leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed will be joining the West Indies cricket team as bowling coach for a short stint.

It is learned that Mushtaq has signed a one-month contract with Cricket West Indies (CWI) as a spin-bowling coach, and is expected to join the Caribbean team later this month. It is also being said that Ahmed’s short stint can be converted into a long-term one. 

Saya Corporation –a sports agency which represents Mushtaq, said in a statement that the 47-year-old is delighted to join the two-time World T20 champions.

As per reports in ESPNcricinfo, Mushtaq stated, “It’s a privilege to work with West Indies cricket team. A team with a very rich history of class, commitment and sheer dominance in the cricket world. The talent from this part of the world has been exceptional and I am quite excited to work with them.”

He signed off by saying, “They have produced many great cricketers and I have wonderful memories playing against a few times in the 90s. They probably are not the same force in the world cricket at this stage but they still have a consistent pipeline of exceptional cricketers coming in the system. It's a short contract but still, a month-long deal is ample enough for me to create a difference.”

Mushtaq, who has played 52 Tests and 144 ODIs for Pakistan, has plenty of coaching experience, as he has already worked as bowling coach with Pakistan, Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Karachi Kings, Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and also English county Surrey.

He has also worked as a spin consultant with England for six years, and during his tenure, the Lions won the T20 World Cup and numerous Ashes titles. He is currently serving as the head coach of Pakistan Cricket Academy following his England commitment’s end.
