Cricket Icon Sachin Tendulkar has lauded the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for making  it compulsory to have a "sports" period daily for the students of Class 9 to 12th. The legendary batsman also urged the CBSE to initiate the initiative for the elementary classes as well.

Recently, the CBSE has issued sports guidelines around 150-page for policy making for schools, mandating to have a daily sports period for the students from High School level to Higher Secondary to prevent them from having a sedentary lifestyle and become couch potatoes.

As per reports in Press Trust of India, Tendulkar wrote a letter to CBSE Chairman Anita Karwal, in which the cricket legend said, “India is at number 3 when it comes to obesity and it is a matter of serious concern. A young, unfit and unhealthy India is a recipe for disaster. To be able to tackle this issue, we must build a strong sporting culture in our country.”

He signed off by saying, “CBSE's decision to reserve one period every day for health and physical education is indeed a right move in that direction. However, there is certainly more that can be done with this initiative. Since the overall objective of your initiative is preventing obesity among children, the board would also like to consider making health and fitness mandatory across all other classes as well.”

Sachin's Mumbai Indians have started to find its rhythm in the IPL ongoing season winning two back to back games. They won against Kolkata Knight Riders in their previous game and face them again on Wednesday at Eden Gardens. The defending champions did not have a start that they would have liked in the season. However, they are still in with a chance to make it to the playoffs if they win all their remaining games.
