It has been confirmed that Virat Kohli will miss Afghanistan’s first ever Test match against India in Bengaluru from June 14 for his maiden county stint, and now reports suggest that the Indian captain might skip the two-match T20I series against Ireland for the same commitment.

With the motive to improve his batting performances in England, Kohli has opted to play county cricket for Surrey in June. The 29-year-old officially signed the deal with Surrey on Thursday (May 3).

As per the contract, Kohli's stint with Surrey starts on June 1 with a one day game against Kent at Beckenham. He will be playing the second and third match of the Royal London Cup on June 3 and 6 against Middlesex and Glamorgan respectively.

The four-day campaign will start against Hampshire in Southampton on June 9 to 12 followed by a match against Somerset (at Guildford from June 20-23) and concluding with Yorkshire game at Scarborough (June 25 to 28).

On the other hand, India are scheduled to play two T20Is against Ireland on June 27 and 29 and in no way Kohli can be part of the team in those matches. Given the fact that Shikhar Dhawan, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar among others will be a part of India A squad, Ireland are likely to face a second-string India team.

In the absence of regular skipper Kohli, Rohit Sharma recently led Team India to the Twenty-20 tri-series victory in Sri Lanka and he in all probability will be captaining the side against Ireland. During the Nidahas Trophy, Sharma had managed the resources extremely well as the Men in Blue went into the tournament without the services of their leading bowlers such as Bhuvi, Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav.
