Warwickshire County Cricket Club has confirmed on Thursday (3 May) that the former England batsman Jonathan Trott has decided to call time on a decorated First-class career at the end of the 2018 season.

The 37-year-old, who retired from international cricket in 2015, has only played county cricket for Warwickshire since making debut in 2003, and for whom Trott has turned up in 269 first-class matches and piled up 17,750 runs at an average of 43.93.

South African-born right-hander played 52 Tests (3835 runs) and 68 One Day Internationals (2819 runs) for England between 2009–2015. He was also one of the English Ashes winners in 2009 and 2013, as well as, played a key role in England's pioneer Test victory in Australia in 2010-11 tour.

As per reports in the club website, Trott said in a statement, “I've been fortunate to have enjoyed a great career with Warwickshire and England and I am very grateful for all of the support that I have received from my fellow players, coaches, and management who I have worked with.”

He signed off, “Choosing to retire at the end of the season is something that I have spoken about at length with my family and this is now the right time to look at the next chapter of my career.”

Meanwhile, Warwickshire director of cricket Ashley Giles said, “Trotty will be remembered as one the greatest batsmen to have played for Warwickshire and England in the 21st century.”

Giles signed off by saying, “At the international level, he played a major role in one of the best England teams of the last 50 years; a team that went top of the world rankings, but which also won the Ashes in Australia for the first time in 25 years.”
