Virat Kohli is known to be a law-abiding citizen and often asks his fans to do the same. As India observes Road Safety Week from April 23 to 30, the Indian captain urged his fans to abide by the traffic rules.
He recently talked about the drink and drive menace and addressed his fans in a video message. He said about the casualties that occur due to people drinking and driving and took a pledge to never do so. Virat Kohli in his message on the occasion of National Road Safety Week said that 19 people die every day because of driving under the influence of alcohol.
“In India, 19 people die every day because of driving under the influence of alcohol. That is almost 6,700 plus people every year. Today I take a pledge to never drink and drive. I want everyone to join hands with me in taking the pledge,” tweeted the right-handed batsman.

He had raised a similar concern last year and said, “Please be safe on roads, follow all the rules. Take care of your safety and the safety of people around you. A lot of lives are at stake when you drive so please be responsible and never drink and drive.”
At least 17 deaths occur every hour in our country due to road accidents, according to a report on Road Accidents in India 2016, published by Transport Research wing under Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has organized the ongoing 29th Road Safety Week with the theme ‘Sadak Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha’ (Road Safety – Protection to Life).
