Ben Cutting announces retirement from First-class Cricket

Ben Cutting has played four ODIs and seven T20Is for Australia.

Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting has announced on 3 April his retirement from First-Class and List A Cricket to focus on his T20 game and develop his skill set in this particular format of the game.

Cutting, who made his debut in October 2007 for Queensland, build a fine career as a fast-bowling all-rounder, will continue to play KFC Big Bash cricket for the Brisbane Heat.

In his 12 years long career, Ben has played 51 first-class matches; in which he has taken 170 wickets at 28.41, and scored 1,561 runs at 23.65. He also played four ODIs and seven T20Is for Australia.

The 30-year-old is currently part of the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians (MI), who brought him for Rs 2.2 Crores for the IPL 2018.

He posted a touching message on his official social media handles Instagram to thank Queensland Cricket for giving him the opportunity to don the baggy maroon.

His post reads, “12 years since I first joined the Queensland Bulls, and 11 years since my debut First Class match, the time has come to call my retirement from the Baggy Maroon. I will not be a part of the contract list for the coming season as I choose to turn my full-time focus to both the shortest format of the game and building my business. I can’t thank Queensland Cricket enough for the opportunities at what has been my home for the past decade!”

In the last Sheffield Shield, he had didn’t play even a single game, and featured in 3 matches last year and due to which he shifted his focus towards the shorter formats of the game.
