Indian cricketers congratulate weightlifter Sathish Sivalingam for winning gold medal in Commonwealth Games

It is Sivalingam’s second consecutive gold medal at Commonwealth Games.

India continued their impressive show at the Commonwealth Games 2018 weightlifting events with Sathish Kumar Sivalingam securing third gold medal for the country. Sivalingam lifted 317 kg in total, 144 kg in Snatch and 173 kg in Clean-and-Jerk in Men’s 77 kg weightlifting to extend India's medal tally to five at CWG 2018 in Gold Coast.

Proud with the effort of Sivalingam, India’s cricket fraternity extended their congratulatory messages for the weightlifter.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar wrote: “Unbelievable victory for #SathishSivalingam. Despite having a hamstring injury going out there and lifting 317kgs is rather courageous. Congratulations on securing a Gold medal for the country. Glasgow 2014 ???? Gold Coast 2018 ???? #GC2018 #GC2018Weightlifting”.

Lauding Sathish’s stellar show, former India opener Virender Sehwag tweeted: “And another early morning gift for us, a golden start to the day. Congratulations #SathishSivalingam  on our third #GC2018Weightlifting  Gold in Men's 77kg, lifting 317kg. Great effort despite the hamstring injury. His second successive gold after the one in Glasgow. #CWG2018”.

Legendary India batsman VVS Laxman also hailed Sivalingam for making the entire country proud.

“Congratulations India on the third gold. Brilliant performance from Sathish Kumar Sivalingam for bagging the gold in men's 77 kg weightlifting. #CWG18” Laxman wrote on his official Twitter page.

Other Indian cricketers who conveyed their laudatory messages for Sivalingam are Suresh Raina, Mohammad Kaif and RP Singh.

It is Sivalingam’s second consecutive gold medal at Commonwealth Games. He has secured the gold in Glasgow in 2014 as well.
