England's poor run in Test cricket not just limited to overseas conditions, feels Michael Vaughan

Vaughan pointed out the need to have better pitches at home for England to become a better team.

Getting the surfaces right at home is where the path to get better lies said Vaughan.

England's Test team were hammered in the Ashes in Australia recently and they were beaten soundly by New Zealand too, both away from home. England's poor overseas performances aren't limited to this winter, though. They were beaten by Bangladesh for the first time in a Test match in the previous away winter before they were dominated by India in India losing the five test series 4-0. They never looked like winning a test in India and barring a few days here & there, the Ashes recently was largely one-sided too.

Michael Vaughan, the former England captain, though believes England's Test Cricket issues aren't just limited to overseas and pointed out to how the team has been inconsistent at home. England recently lost a test at home to Windies. Across the last five years, all teams barring Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, have won at least one test in England.

Speaking recently on the sidelines of All-Stars Cricket event, a programme designed to encourage young kids towards our game, to Sportskeeda Vaughan said: "They [England] have to be careful they don't think it's just an overseas problem. They've been on a slippery slope in the UK for a couple of years, it's not been consistent for a long time in Test match cricket and that is one thing Joe Root and Trevor Bayliss will want to put right." also pointing the fingers at the current England test captain and the coach"

England has often been exposed in uncomfortable climes when anything other than the Dukes ball, used in England, is employed. Talking specifically about this, he said,"They'll want more consistency from the bat, a bit more action and potency with the ball.In the UK with a Duke ball you will always get more movement so it will suit them but I don't want them to prepare wickets that can get the early fix, [and] prepare a green top that gets them a couple of wins in English conditions, [with the ball] hooping all over the place."

Vaughan also(not the first English expert to do so recently) expressed the need to better the surfaces at home domestically and internationally to produce cricketers who can excel in all conditions and help England get better results all over the world. "I want them to try to prepare the best possible wickets to last five days and try to win Test matches in the UK the proper way.By doing that they will need a front-line spinner, [and] batsmen will have to earn the right to bat long periods of time and that will put them in better stead to play more consistently overseas when the wickets are flatter."
