Australian batsman Cameron Bancroft might have been suspended from both international and domestic circuit following the ball-tampering saga, but there are still chances of him to play for his local side Willetton.

Cricket Australia (CA) banned Bancroft for 9 months, along with Captain Steve Smith and David Warner. Bancroft was caught using sandpaper to alter the condition of the ball in South Africa during the third Test at Cape Town.

However, Australian sports’ governing body has given them some relief, as CA said in a release that “the trio can play club cricket to maintain links with the cricket community.”

Meanwhile, Willetton –a large southern suburb of Perth, which falls under the purview of the Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA), where rules say, “A player serving a suspension issued by Cricket Australia is automatically disqualified from participation in WADCC competitions for the duration of that suspension.”

However, the 25-year-old’s hopes of playing for Willetton are still alive as WACA chief executive Christina Matthews hinted at a possible change in the WACA rules to facilitate Bancroft's participation.

As per Sportstar, Matthews had told reporters, “Cameron’s been a well respected and well-regarded member of the WA cricket family and he’s made a dreadful mistake but we’ll help him through that.”

In the video footage, Bancroft was seen using tape to alter the condition of the ball during the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town last week. The opener had also expressed deep regret over his conduct in a press conference on return to Australia.
