Veteran Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami has admitted that the bowling and batting unit did not contribute together which led the Indian Women’s Team to the ouster of the home T20 International Tri-series, featuring England and Australia as well.

India managed to win the only T20I of the nine-match series, including two practice matches, with the final of the series will be played between England and Australia on 31 March at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.

On Thursday (29 March), Smriti Mandhana's 62* and some collective effort from the bowlers –Anuja Patil, who  was adjudged Man of the Match for his 3/21 (3.5 overs), Radha Yadav, Deepti Sharma, and Poonam Yadav – who took 2 wickets each helped India to beat England by 8-wicket in Mumbai.

The Indian eves managed to win the game but failed to qualify for the Tri-series final, and veteran pacer Goswami blamed team’s inability to display collective effort on the field for their ouster.

As per PTI, Goswami said at press conference, “We never said that we are going to win this competition. But as a process for our T20 World Cup, we were seeing this as an important tournament, we were trying new players. And the thing was as a team, bowling and batting unit did not contribute together.”

She continued, “But considering the new rules, so far what we have done in the competition, I am happy. Because we scored 198, which has never happened, consistently we scored 160-170. When the top order did not click, Anju (Patil), Pooja (Vastrakar), they have performed, people are coming down and taking the responsibility, which was not happening earlier.”

The pacer also noted that they need to improve their bowling department. She further added on the same, “Bowling is one area where we can work because (of the) new rules is bit tough for the bowlers because five fielders always in the ring, is difficult, but it is challenge and all the bowlers in the world have to accept it and we are going to work on it.”

While lauding Vastrakar, Jhulan described her as a hard-working player. Goswami signed off by saying, “She (Pooja) has done her best in the chances she has got. And I am glad that we have a player like Pooja who can bowl, bat and field well. If we keep her in the team, our batting number increases. She is hard-working when I have been speaking to her and few things I have tried to tell and she is trying to develop. As a bowler, it takes time to implement new things.”
