India pacer Varun Aaron was not picked in the IPL 2018 auctions and instead will be utilizing the time playing in the English County circuit. He has signed up with English county Leicestershire for the upcoming season.

Aaron will play the Specsavers County Championship games and fixtures in the Royal London One-Day Cup, as a cover for Pakistani pacer Mohd Abbas, who will be on international duty for Pakistan and injured Sohail Khan, was not available.

“I got a call five days ago from Leicestershire saying that one of their bowlers might be injured. So, they were looking at me. They took a fitness test and it turned out he wasn’t fit. I had a chat with Paul Nixon, the coach, and that’s how the process started,” Aaron told Sportstar.

“I will be playing around 13 games in a span of 40 to 44 days. There will be eight limited-overs games for now, leading up to the three county games,” added the 28-year-old.

The Indian team will be touring England in July-August 2018, for a full series.

“I am highly motivated to play for India and if you get an opportunity like this, before the team tours England, it is the best thing I could have asked for. I am trying to get in touch with S. S. Rao (former Jharkhand bowler) to help me out with a few things before I fly to the UK,” added Aaron.
