Virat Kohli becomes the top brand endorser of India

Kohli reportely earns about Rs 3.2 crore per brand, from his Instagram posts.

India captain Virat Kohli is currently the most popular cricketer in the world and definitely the darling of the advertisement industry in India. He has even started to give a tough competition to many Bollywood stars in terms of endorsement deals.

As per the ‘Sporting Nation in the Making-V’ by ESP Properties and SportzPower, Virat Kohli was named as the top brand endorser in India, thanks to his deal with Uber. Kohli endorses as many as 19 brands in total, with the likes of Puma, Tissot, Manyavar, Audi, Herbalife, American Tourister, MRF and Vicks.

Kohli is India’s most valuable celebrity with a brand value of more than Rs 150 crores. Badminton star PV Sindhu is the top non-cricketing Sportstar on the list with 11 brands and over Rs 30 crore worth of endorsement value.

The list has stars like Roger Federer (brand value USD 37.2 million) at no.1 spot, followed by LeBron James (USD 33.4 million), Usain Bolt (USD 27 million) and Cristiano Ronaldo (USD 21.5 million).

According to the report, the overall sports sponsorship in India increased by 14 percent in 2017 – from Rs 6,400 crores to Rs 7,300 crores – crossing the $1 billion mark for the first time.

The 29-year-old Kohli is also thought to be earning about Rs 3.2 crore per brand, only from his Instagram posts, as of December 2017, and he is the only Indian athlete to command a fee of that stature.
