England Test team –led by Joe Root not only embarrassed the entire British Isles with their disastrous show in New Zealand but also their head Coach Trevor Bayliss.

Bayliss said that the way his batters were bowled out for 58 at Eden Park that was like "deer in the headlights".

It was England’s second-lowest Test total after 45 against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 1877. The two-match Test series opener Day was worst for Root and his team, and the way the batsmen were out at 0 by the Kiwi attack that stunned everyone.

England’s humiliating collapse was the sixth lowest total in the history of Test cricket, and Bayliss said that his players were extremely bad and did many unnecessary mistakes against New Zealand.

According to a report in The Guardian, Bayliss told reporters after the Day’s play, “I was certainly embarrassed, and I was not the only one in that dressing room feeling like that. It was a very poor effort today; it just simply wasn't good enough. New Zealand bowled well but we batted equally badly. It was like deer in the headlights. Someone sneezes and everyone caught a cold today.”

The head coach further stated, “New Zealand bowled extremely well. We were extremely bad. We made a lot of mistakes with our footwork. The ball was swinging a bit and, when the ball is full, you have to play forward but we were still behind the crease to those full deliveries. When one person sneezes it seems that we all catch a cold. It’s not good enough. I don’t feel anger, more disappointment. We have to take it on the chin, sit down and work out what we can do better before the next innings.”

Bayliss was very disappointed with the show but unwilling to take the blame for picking the side against New Zealand. He signed off by saying, “We have got the best we can pick for England here”
