KCA's conflict of interest over Kochi ODI vs Windies

The BCCI has handed the opportunity to Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) to host a One Day International match between India and West Indies in November this year, but it seems that it did not go well with the state's football association as the KCA wants to host the teams in Kochi instead of traditional cricket ground Karyavattom.

The fact of the matter is that the Kochi’s Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium has been hosting the football matches since the recent years, hosting FIFA U-17 World Cup, as well as, the home ground for the Kerala Blasters FC in the Indian Super League (ISL).

But, KCA is now planning to shift the India-Windies ODI match from Thiruvananthapuram to Kochi, and the state body’s decision has been condemned by everyone, and even former Union Minister and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor also came against the state body, saying "KCA’s this motive is highly suspect”.

Many believe that the KCA should not “dig up” the Kochi stadium for just a one-off cricket match despite having a traditional cricket stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, as the body’s that decision could overturn months of hard work in creating a world-class football turf.

Even, Tharoor has also spoken to the Committee of Administrators Chief Vinod Rai to denounce Kerala Cricket Association's bizarre decision, as well as, continuously opposing KCA’s decision on the social media.

He also thanked everyone for the outpouring of support for his firm opposition to KCA’s shifting the ODI to Kochi on his official Twitter handle.

His Twitter post reads, “Spoke to CoA Chief VinodRai to denounce Kerala Cricket Assn's bizarre decision to transfer the India-WI ODI from a match-ready Trivandrum stadium to Kochi, whose ground was last used for the U17 Football World Cup. He has promised to review the matter. KCA motives highly suspect.”
