Vidarbha cricket team skipper –Faiz Fazal, under whom the side made history by winning their maiden Ranji Trophy title in December last year, on Wednesday, said he feels very happy to see his team in the Irani Cup to be held from 14 – 18 March in Nagpur.

It will be very first time when Vidarbha will play the Irani Cup, and Fazal would definitely like to replicate their Ranji show against Rest of India to add another feather to the side’s cap.  The Vidarbha skipper also said that they have had some good preparation and will give their best to give a tough challenge to Rest of India in Nagpur.

Fazal told Sportstar, “It is a great feeling. We have had some good preparation. We are again trying out the match simulation process—something we did in the pre-season as well.”

It will be an additional benefit for Vidarbha to play the Irani tournament at home, and Fazal is confident of registering another win in the First-class Indian domestic tournament.

He further stated, “It is true that we could not play to our potential in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Ali T20. But we got good starts in both the tournaments. It’s just that we could not capitalize on that.”

With Indian spin sensation R Ashwin featuring for Rest of India, things will be tough for Vidarbha and Fazal said it will be a great opportunity for the boys to prove themselves. He added, “It is a new tournament, and definitely more challenging. With Ravichandran Ashwin featuring for Rest of India, it certainly makes them a strong team. But it is an opportunity for all of us to perform.”

Fazal signed off by saying, “There will definitely be a home advantage for us. It is important we focus on the longer format again, and we will be hoping to finish off the season on a high. It would also be good if we clinch the Irani Cup title. Only a few teams have won both the titles in one season.”
