Ravindra Jadeja has been sidelined from the upcoming ZR Irani Cup match, in which he was scheduled to play for Rest of India team.
The Irani Trophy sees the Ranji Trophy champions play against a team made up of talents from Rest of India and has been a marquee domestic trophy since its inception in 1959-60. The Rest of India has won the Cup 28 times.
Ravindra Jadeja, who last featured in the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Saurashtra, suffered a side strain and didn’t bowl in any of the matches, playing as a specialist batsman. Now he will be replaced by R Ashwin in the Rest of India squad, to face the 2017-18 Ranji Champions, Vidarbha.
Ashwin, who was recently named the captain of IPL franchise KXIP, was not originally named in the Rest of India squad for the match, but will now feature in one of the most prestigious domestic cricket encounters.
The Irani Cup match between Rest of India and Vidarbha will be played from 14th March to 18th March, 2018 at the VCA Stadium, Nagpur.
