After suffering six consecutive defeats in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), Lahore Qalandars’ skipper Brendon McCullum has offered to give up the captaincy of the side.

On Thursday (March 8), Lahore lost to Islamabad United by 6 wickets that resulted in McCullum taking all the blame on himself as a responsible leader.

“Ultimately as captain you’re responsible for the performances. I feel like I’ve done the same things that I do in any team that I’ve led, but unfortunately that hasn’t resonated,” McCullum said according to Cricbuzz.

Brendon McCullum, who has led New Zealand to the final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, also gave an impression that the team could yield better result by replacing the captain.

“So that’s the question we’ve got to ask tonight as well – whether it’s better offloading it to someone else and seeing if we can get better results. Doesn’t matter if you’re saying the right things, but if they’re not hitting home or the instructions aren’t being followed, then you’re always going to be pushing it uphill,” he added.

After being put into bat by Islamabad United skipper Misbah-ul-Haq, Qalandars rode on Anton Devcich’s fine half-century (62 of 42 balls) to put 163/8 on the board in 20 overs. However, Islamabad chased down the target with 14 balls to spare thanks to a blazing 41-ball 77 from Luke Ronchi.

Responding to whether Qalandars should have had more runs on the board, McCullum said, “No, not really. We bowled very poorly.”

"I thought it was a very, very good batting performance, set up by Anton Devcich in his first game, and [he] showed how hungry, competitive people are able to prosper. What we did after that, I was really disappointed with, to be honest. It's not what we're about and I don't mind losing, but you expect to be hard to beat. We've got some questions to ask tonight and that's all the way through," he cleared.

Qalandars are currently placed on the bottom of the points table. With just four games to go before the PSL eliminators in Lahore, the McCullum-led side has bleak chances of making it to the play-offs.
