India skipper Virat Kohli on Friday (March 9) expressed his gratitude towards taxi aggregator Uber for naming him as its brand ambassador in India. This is the first time the company has announced a brand ambassador in the Asia Pacific region.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Kohli posted a 27-second long video and captioned it as: “Looking forward to a successful innings with @Uber_India. Stoked to #TakeABackseat and here's why! #UberIndia”.

In his message, the Indian cricket captain has drawn everyone’s attention towards the technology that Uber is using to revolutionize traveling around cities. He also said the cab hailing platform is empowering millions by creating economic opportunities.

“Hey guys! I am super pumped to be a part of team Uber India. I still remember my first Uber ride, looking at those tiny cars move on a map and wondering if this would work. But it did and like magic. I am personally very excited to be a part of this journey, helping millions move at the tap of a button and creating economic opportunities for our driver partners. Looking forward to ride ahead,” Virat Kohli stated.

Earlier in the day, Uber India released a statement saying: “Uber India’s association with Virat Kohli will lay the foundation for a host of brand-led interventions in 2018. Besides being the face of the brand, Virat will be actively involved in a series of innovative marketing and customer experience initiatives to be rolled out by Uber India.”

Virat is currently the face of 17 brands, including Gionee phones, Puma sportswear, Audi luxury cars, MRF Tyres, Tissot watches, oral care brand Colgate and Boost health drinks among others. Moreover, he has invested in a chain of gyms under the brand Chisel, tech startup Sports Convo, apparel line Wrogn, and has his own One8 brand of casualwear, footwear and accessories along with Puma.
