Dilip Vengsarkar backs BCCI's move of creating new A+ Grade in new central contracts

BCCI has announced the addition of a new category (A+) for its centrally contracted men players.

Dilip Vengsarkar –former Chairman of selectors, on Thursday, hailed the Indian Cricket Board's (BCCI) move of creating a new A+ grade which will be basically benefiting those players who feature consistently in all formats of the game.

On Wednesday (March 7), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the addition of a new category (A+) for the centrally contracted players which includes the top players from the men’s team –Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shikhar Dhawan.

These five players who consistently feature across all three formats – are the first set of players to appear in A+ category and will fetch INR 7 crores in the contract period from October 2017 to September 2018.

Vengsarkar told India Today, “It's a good move. It's a good way of rewarding those who play in all formats of the game and basically play round the year.”

The A category includes players such as Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni and Wriddhiman Saha and they will fetch INR 5 crores.

Meanwhile, B category includes players likes of KL Rahul, Umesh Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Hardik Pandya, Ishant Sharma and Dinesh Karthik will earn INR 3 crores.

While Grade C includes Kedhar Jadhav, Manish Pandey, Axar Patel, Karun Nair, Suresh Raina, Parthiv Patel and Jayant Yadav and they will get INR 1 crore for their efforts on the field.

In the womens' category 

Grade A players are Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami, Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana.

Grade B has Poonam Yadav, Veda Krishnamurthy, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Ekta Bisht, Shikha Pandey, Deepti Sharma.

The likes of Mansi Joshi, Anuja Patil, Mona Meshram, Nuzhat Parveen, Sushma Verma, Punam Raut, Jemimah Rodrigues, Pooja Vastrakar, Taniya Bhatia are in Grade C.
