Mithali Raj, who has become a household name lately owing to India’s stellar show in last year’s ICC Women’s World Cup in England, shared an inspirational message on Twitter for her followers and fans. The Indian women’s captain urged everyone to be patient in their life and continue to carry on the good work in their respective fields without thinking much about the limelight.

Mithali gave an example of her career as it took her almost 20 years to get the recognition. It is worth mentioning here that Raj made her international debut in 1999 and has played 10 Tests, 189 ODIs and 68 T20Is for India thus far.

“Limelight is not the only light you have to chase. Till recently, not many knew about my achievements or who I was, but I kept playing,” Mithali Raj tweeted.

“The acknowledgements have come my way now, after 20 years of my cricketing career. Be patient. Don’t quit. A change is around the corner,” she added.

Apart from leading the team to the final of 2017 Women’s World Cup, Mithali was also at her best with the bat during the showpiece event. It was her 109 in a must win pool game against the White Ferns that secured India’s spot in the semi-final. Her other notable batting effort came in the inaugural match against the hosts England in Derby, where she scored a well-composed 71 besides getting 46, 53 and 69 against West Indies, Sri Lanka and Australia respectively.

The Women in Blue recently scripted history by winning ‘double series’ against South Africa women in their own den. While Mithali Raj led side beat the Proteas women 2-1 in a three-match ODI series, Harmanpreet Kaur led team thrashed the same side by 3-1 in a five-match T20I series.  The veteran Mithali Raj was 'Player of the Series' in India’s Twenty-20 series triumph.

As far as Mithali’s overall career is concerned – she has scored 6259 ODI runs for India besides scoring 1900 runs T20I cricket. She has also proved her worth in Test cricket, scoring 663 runs at an average of 51 in 10 matches.
