BCCI announces new contract structure for its men and women cricketers

As per the BCCI press release, the domestic match fee structure will see a pay hike of 200 percent in each category.

The Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) for BCCI on Wednesday (March 7) disclosed the Annual Player Contracts for the period from October 2017 to September 2018. In a press release, the BCCI stated that the Committee of Administrators “was of the view that the performance and position of Indian Cricket needs to be recognised with the fee structure comparable to the best in the world.”

For the very first time, the world’s richest cricket board announced the addition of a new category (A+) for its centrally contracted men players, who consistently feature in all three formats of cricket.

The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shikhar Dhawan are the first set of players to appear in A+ category and will earn INR 7 crores. The A category includes players such as Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra jadeja, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni and Wriddhiman Saha and they will fetch INR 5 crores.

As far as category B is concerned – the players of this group will earn INR 3 crores. Names like KL Rahul, Umesh Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Hardik Pandya, Ishant Sharma and Dinesh Karthik are a part of category B. The last category of India’s men cricketers i.e. ‘Category ‘C’ have players such as Kedar Jadhav, Manish Pandey, Akshar Patel, Karun Nair, Suresh Raina, Parthiv Patel and Jayant Yadav in it and they will get INR 1 crore for their efforts on the field.

The senior women’s cricketers will also get a pay hike along with the addition of a new category i.e. ‘Category C’. The top bracket of women players will receive INR 50 lakhs during the contract period.

Esteemed women cricketers namely Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana have been named in A category and they will earn INR 50 lakhs. Players in category B, including Poonam Yadav, Veda Krishnamurthy, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Ekta Bisht, Shikha Pandey and Deepti Sharma will fetch INR 30 lakhs during the contract period.

The new category of India’s women cricketers have names such as Mansi Joshi, Anuja Patil, Mona Meshram, Nuzhat Parveen, Sushma Verma, Punam Raut, Jemimah Rodrigues, Pooja Vastrakar, Taniya Bhatia in it and they will get INR 10 lakhs for their effort on the field.

 

The BCCI press release also confirmed that the Domestic Match fee structure will see a pay hike of 200 percent in each category.
