Bangladesh cricketer –Mashrafe Mortaza has achieved a rare feat during the Dhaka Premier League when he bagged a double hat-trick for Abahani Limited to join the elite list of Shaun Pollock, Vasbert Drakes, Shrikant Mundhe, and Lasith Malinga.

On Tuesday (6 March), Bangladesh's ODI captain picked up four wickets in four deliveries which helped his side – Abahani Limited to win the game by 11 runs against Agrani Bank by 11 runs.

With this, Mortaza, who ended up with figures of 6/44 in 9.5 overs, taking the wickets of Dhiman Ghosh, Abdur Razzak, Shafiul Islam and Fazle Rabbi, has become the eighth bowler to achieve this feat –double hat-trick in the T20 tournament. He also becomes the first Bangladeshi player to achieve the feat in a List A match.

According to a report in ESPN Cricinfo, Mortaza said about his performance, “My performance is helping me prepare for the rest of the year. With the old ball, my strength is the cutter and it is with this delivery that I took the last four wickets. There’s always pressure on the bowler.”

He signed off by saying, “I was bowling with the third-man up so an edge was going to go for four. I thought of pushing him back but then again, being positive is very important in these situations.”

Mortaza due to his involvement in the Dhaka Premier League will not be a part of the Bangladesh squad which is taking part in the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka
