Steve Smith has been the premier batsman when it comes to Test cricket in last 2-3 years. Smith made his debut as a leg-spinner and even toured India as a frontline spinner, but honed his skills to become the best Test batsman in the world today.

Smith was recently retained by Rajasthan Royals for the IPL 2018 and was declared captain recently. In an interview with the franchise, Smith recalled his rivalry with Kevin Pietersen of England, during the Ashes.

Too much sledging, not sure about the best part, Kevin Pietersen called me a club cricketer a few times during the Ashes and I guess I proved him wrong a little bit,” Smith was quoted.

I guess something people may not know about me is that I used to play tennis when I was younger. I kind of wanted to be a tennis player when I was younger as well, but chose the path of cricket that worked out very well,” Smith added.

Steve Smith called Mark Waugh the most inspiring person in his life.

The most inspiring person for me to play cricket when I was younger was Mark Waugh. The way he went about his business was so elegant with everything he did “said Smith.
