Ravichandran Ashwin to miss the Deodhar Trophy due to injury

Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem has been named as Ashwin's replacement in the India ‘A’ side.

Just a day after his appointment as the captain of India 'A' side for the forthcoming Deodhar Trophy, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been ruled out of the tournament owing to injury issues. Deodhar Trophy is slated to be held in Dharamsala from 4th March to 8th March.

"India A captain R Ashwin has been ruled out of the upcoming Prof D B Deodhar Trophy 2017-18 to be held in Dharamsala. Ashwin has a niggling issue and the BCCI Medical Team has advised him a week’s rest," the BCCI said in a statement.

Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem has been named as Ashwin's replacement in the India ‘A’ side whereas Maharashtra cricketer Ankit Bawne has been shouldered with the responsibility to lead the side. On the other hand, Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer will captain the India ‘B’ team.

The two teams will lock horns against Karnataka, the winners of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017-18. On Tuesday (February 27), Karun Nair led Karnataka side beat Saurashtra by 41 runs at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi to lift the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
