The India Under-19 cricket team has made headlines since winning the ICC U-19 World Cup 2018 earlier this month. Apart from applauding the Boys in Blue, the cricket fraternity is rightfully giving credit to their coach Rahul Dravid.

In fact, soon after India U19’s momentous World Cup triumph, the BCCI had announced a cash reward of Rs 50 lakh for Dravid., while the other members of the support staff had been awarded Rs 20 lakh each.

However, the batting legend had expressed reservations about accepting the remuneration; as he felt that there shouldn’t be any discrimination in the rewards offered to members of the coaching staff.

As per the reports in The Indian Express, it has now been learnt that the Board of Control for Cricket in India has accepted Dravid’s demand for equality in the cash rewards. Reports further suggest that every member of the coaching staff, including Dravid, will now receive Rs 25 lakh.

“From the time the award was announced, Dravid wasn’t happy with him getting much more than others. He informed the Board that he felt that every member had played an equal role in the team winning the World Cup. It surprised many in the BCCI that he was ready to take a cut in his own earning,” a Board member told The Indian Express on the condition of anonymity.

It is not the first time that Dravid has taken a stand for the India Under-19 team support staff. After winning the World Cup he had said that it is a bit embarrassing for him to get too much of attention.

“It’s a bit embarrassing at times because I tend to get a lot of attention and focus, but it is really about the support staff and the quality of people that we’ve had. I don’t want to mention names but everyone in the support staff has put in a great effort. We do the best for the kids,” Dravid had told Simon Doull after India’s 8-wicket victory in the final of ICC U-19 World Cup 2018.
