Australia’s undefeated run in the Twenty20 Trans-Tasman tri-series saw them move up the second spot in the latest released ICC T20I team rankings. In fact, the David Warner led side joined Pakistan at the top of the table with 126 rating points but Pakistan remains the number one team on the basis of superior decimal points.
While Australia finished on 125.65 points when the points were rounded off, Pakistan aggregated 125.84 points against their name.
Having won all the league matches in the Trans-Transman tri-series against New Zealand and England, Australia defeated the Black Caps by 19 runs (DLS method) in the final at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday (February 21).
On the other hand, New Zealand had entered into the tournament with 123 points to their name. However, they managed to win only one match and consequently lost seven points and slipped to the fourth position. Meanwhile, England have lost five points to slip from the fourth to the sixth position and now boast 114 points.
Team India under the leadership of Virat Kohli recently became the No.1 ODI side and now they have the chance to close down the gap in ICC T20I team rankings. India are currently in the third position with 122 points and could inch closer to the top two (Pakistan and Australia) if they win both the remaining T20Is against South Africa. However, the Men in Blue could also drop to 118 points if they lose both T20Is against South Africa.
On the other hand, South Africa could gain 5 points if they win both matches and might slip from 110 to 107 points if they lose the remaining two T20Is against India.
