Former England captain and Cricket Pundit –Michael Vaughan has a very thoughtful suggestion for the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the qualifiers of the upcoming World Cup, which is scheduled to play in England next year. He calls for some significant changes in the ICC setup over participating teams in the tournament, especially in the World Cup.

The point of discussion here is that , Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan recently has become the youngest ever bowler to attain the No. 1 spot in the ICC bowler rankings for One Day International, but there are little chances of his country to participate in the 2019 World Cup, as the top 8 ranked teams have already qualified for the tournament, while the remaining two slots are up for grabs. This according to the former England skipper has to be better handled by the apex body, as he believes that the World Cup is a big platform for lesser-known players to get a recognition in world cricket.

Zimbabwe will host the World Cup Qualifier (WCQ) tournament from 4 – 25 March 2018 and 10 teams will be competing in 34 matches for two berths in the World Cup 2018.

The battle for the final two spots for the World Cup will see countries –West Indies, Afghanistan, Ireland, Hong-Kong, Nepal, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Scotland, UAE and the hosts Zimbabwe. Afghanistan are among other teams which will be competing in the World Cup Qualifiers in March 2018 to grab those two spots.

Although, Afghanistan has been the most improved side in the world, but in case they failed to qualify for the World Cup 2019, Rashid will not feature in the prestigious ICC tournament next year, which Vaughan called ‘Madness’.

On 20 February, the commentator took to Twitter to urge the sports’ governing body to globalize and grow the game instead of reducing it due to which some world class players can’t showcase their talent to the world.

Vaughan wrote, Afghanistan bowler @rashidkhan_19 is the No1 ODI bowler in the World !!!!!!! Yet he might not take part in the next World Cup !!!!!   #Madness ... Let’s grow the game please not reduce it .....
